Bio
Mike Evans is a saxophonist and educator from Harrisburg, PA.
Mike studied music at Lebanon Valley College, and has studied and mentored with Tom Strohman, Andy Middleton, Tim Price, and Chad Lefkowitz-Brown.
He currently is active as a teacher, and as a saxophonist with The Very Fine Gentlemen (funky jazz-fusion), Mark DeRose & the Dreadnoughts (rootsy classic rock), and also freelances with multiple jazz, funk, and rock groups throughout the east coast.
Musical Highlights
As a founding member of the neo-swing band, Big Tubba Mista, he has performed hundreds of shows across the country and has musical credits on several albums, independent movies, and television.
Several of BTM's original recordings were featured on compilations, soundtracks, and on shows such as MTV's Making the Video and Undressed.
He has performed at celebrated venues such as The Supper Club, The Five Spot, Swing 46, Windows on the World in NYC, and The Derby in L.A., as well as at numerous colleges, such as Princeton, Towson University, Washington & Lee, Bucknell University, and many others.
BTM had the pleasure of performing for George W. Bush, and shared the stage with the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Royal Crown Revue, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and the Specials, to name a few.
Since The Very Fine Gentlemen’s recent inception, they have offered support for popular acts such as Ripe, and The Toasters, and Rebirth Brass Band.
